just a sweet hello.....

Hey there Mahonyha.
Since I have gotten back to Vancouver I have checked your blog every day for updates on your condition.
Then I read what your mom wrote and I let out a little giggle. Just when I was coming to terms with saying
good by, your condition remarkably improves. You are one amazing woman Mahonyha. Your determination
Inspires me. I love you.

Still Praying and thinking of you.

Dear Mahonyha

I just wanted to let you know we are still praying and thinking of you. I still have the bracellet on and check the website every day to see if anyone has added anything. I am glad there are so many people who care about you and am assured that you are in the hands of some very caring and loving people. I pray that you are comforted. I am not quite sure what to say so I picked you a bible verse from my box of promises ( it is a little box with different verses from the bible on it and then there is also a prayer on the back). When I was younger my mother used to always pick me out one before going to school when I was affraid or worried about something. So I have come to do that when I need answers or encouragement. I have had some really encouraging verses that were needed just at the right time. I have also picked some for my friends and people at our church. Sometimes they make no sense to me but I give them anyway and am told it helps them. My mom says she has done the same thing. Here is the vese:

"And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not." Galatians 6:9

and the prayer on the other side is Thank you, God for people who help with no thought or recognition or reward. Help me to be one of those people.

I cann't immagine what she must be going through.

My Mother lost her daughter to cancer in 2001. I of course lost my only sister. There was something that happened to me before she passed away that I will never forget. She could not move at all so we just sat on her bed (She was so blessed she was able to stay at home and be surrounded by helpful caring and loving people many who were nurses because she herself was a nurse). I did not know what I could do so I just read the bible to her. When it was time for me to leave I leaned over to give her a kiss on her cheek and she moved her lips to the side so I could kiss her lips. I thank God for that moment.I believe It was a gift from him to help me with my faith and have this story to tell you.

Dear Mahonyha,

We were told about your struggle by Doreen and Ken Rushka. We are proud to call Doreen and Ken our friends and soon will have the privilege to call them our family when our daughter Paula and their son Rodd are married. Rodd and Paula have just recently announced their engagement and we are thrilled that our families will soon be joined. When we asked Ken and Doreen how we could help you and your family, they suggested that we contact their son Trevor by email. We know that you and Trevor are old friends and we were touched when we read his, and others, entries to your BlogSpot and learned that Trevor is working hard to promote a fundraiser in your honour in Calgary. We have never met you, Mahonyha, but the fact that Trevor is so determined to do good for you and your family is a testament to the wonderful young woman that you undoubtedly are. After communicating with Trevor, it was his suggestion that we write to you.
Your story has struck a chord with my husband John and me, not only because we are friends with the Rushka family or because we have a young daughter, just a few years older than you, but because another lovely lady we know, our dear friend Vi, has also been recently touched by cancer. She is fighting an amazing battle we are sure in similar ways as you. We are happy to let you know that she is doing real well. The truly remarkable thing about Vi is her positive attitude and unshakeable spirit. She obviously possesses many of the same characteristics as you do Mahonyha, including determination, courage, stamina and resilience. She knows, and has told us, that a positive attitude and an unwavering will to heal are the best weapons in her fight and we can see that you are adept at using these weapons, too. We feel inspired and very proud of you for what you have accomplished.
We want you to know, Mahonyha, that we are sending positive thoughts and prayers your way. You obviously have the great gift of inspiring all those to whom you come into contact. Your indomitable spirit is an inspiration to us and although we may be strangers, many years older than you, and perhaps with little interests in common, we feel that having had the chance to connect with you is a blessing to us.

we are praying in vancouver

my mom lives in castlegar and is a 2 time cancer survivor and was given 6 months to live when i was 1 year old. now i am 33 and praise God she is still here. she had breast cancer 2 years ago and did the treatment and is doing well. In october i collapsed at work in the bath room and was found unconscious on the floor after hitting the floor when i went to the hospital they gave me a ct scan and it showed a large tumor, i have since had surgery and i am now undergoing radiation and because of the hair loss i shaved my head yesterday i am at peace because of God's hand in my life i feel not only his presence but the fact that i am actually resting in his hand and i wear the braclet to remind me to pray for mahonyha to also be in his hand.... vancouver is praying as well and i will continue to do so as well..

A prayer..

I was at Joey's only the other day and saw your bracellets. I wasn't going to get one at first. But after thinking about it.I felt that God was telling me to buy it and every time I look at it to pray for you and others.We have a prayer group at our church and we pray for those on the back of our bulliten we take turns going down the list I couldn't believe it when the first one I was to pray for was you. I cried and got so emotional I had to tell the others my story.I just know he has placed you on my heart and believe that heeling is possible with faith. My prayer is for complete and total healing in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ Amen

Hi ...

i know that it has been a long time since we spoke , i just wanted to write you and let you know how much i care about what you and your family are going through , it must be hard . I remember hanging out with you guys lots at the house in Slocan , and the one thing that i will never forget is the closeness that your family had , it inspires me still everyday. I have never been around such love in my whole life. I wish Mahonyha and the family strength .....thinking of you and your family xox Ang Jacobs and family .Take Good care everyone , hugs.

I meant to write a long time ago and I have spent alot of time thinking of what I should say. I am still not sure. You are so strong. You have always seemed strong, so cool and fun. There was always a sense of wonder about you, something mysterious. And you truly are a beautiful person inside and out. I never heard you say anything bad about anyone, fight with anyone. I want you to know that I wish I had spent more time getting to know you. Your family and friends are all so wonderful and giving. I really beleive in alternative medicine and more than that even, Hope. I hope you are well soon Mahonyha. You are a special girl. I will put you in my prayers.

Dear Mahonyha,

It has been sometime since we last saw or talked to one another, but know this, I have heard about your battle and story through family and friends, and throughout the years thoughts about you and your fight have never been far from my mind. You are one of the most beautiful people I have known, and the times I spent with you I will never forget. Your smile is radiant, your energy is wonderful, and your heart is untameable. There were so many terrific memories we shared, whether it be randomly dancing Latino in the street, drinking wine on the deck while watching a lightening storm roll down the lake, or having a sushi/movie night in, they all where terrific, but the one memory that stands out is when I surprised you with the trip to Vernon, and we jumped off the top of the mountain and let the wind soar beneath us as we let the paraglide float us into the field. I remember the childlike smile on your face, the excitement which filled your blood, and your determination to push yourself to the limit, summon your strength and run off the cliff. Little did I know that this was just an inkling of the tremendous strength and determination that you have and continue to show in your ongoing battle. You have reminded me that one must live life day-to-day, to do now what everyone puts off till tomorrow, and give and love dearly to all those you care for. I know our time spent together was not long, but the memories will always remain great. You are one of those people who have unequivocally affected my life, and I thank you for it.

I want you to know that in caring and giving, I have taken it upon myself to do what I can for you and your family during this fight. Initially I wanted to surprise you later and end up on your doorstep and present you with my efforts and a hug, but I am very bad at keeping secrets. So, the secret is out. Mahonyha, for the last few months I have been organizing a poker fundraiser for you in Calgary . This event is taking place on Sunday March 22 at a local casino, which has kindly donated its use and several companies have donated hundreds of dollars worth of prizes to your cause. So far the rough interest is that several hundred people will be in attendance... several hundred strangers that have heard your story through my lips and were heart-struck and want to give to you whatever they can to help you beat and triumph over this. I do not know the exact number of people coming, nor do I know exactly how much this will monetarily benefit you, your family and your fight, but I know that it will be significant, and everything helps. If anyone is interested in helping Mahonyha and lives in the Calgary area please send an email to trevorrushka@msn.com, and I will add you to the mailing list.

I just wanted you to know this now, because I expect that hug when I see you at the end of March sometime. And that hundreds of strangers in Calgary now know who you are and want you to continue to fight hard in this battle and be triumphant. This is just the start, as the date moves closer I plan on getting on the morning news to market and promote this event,… then hundreds of thousands with hear your battle and hundreds of thousands will be cheering for you. Upcoming MRI
